Vita

Jula worked from February to April 2011 as a tutor in pattern cutting and illustration at CIDI-Chanapatana International Design Institute in Bangkok.  After that she worked as permanent costume assistant at Theatre Dortmund and was in charge of large opera and ballet stage plays, such as Hamlet, Swan Lake, as well as guest pieces by George Balanchine, William Forsythe, Christian Spuck and Mauro Bigonzetti. She assisted important Opera pieces such as the Flying Dutchman, Norma, Così fan tutte.During this period she was allowed to design her own costumes for Theatre Dortmund. Therefore a ballet evening, Identities, was created using her costumes and décor that the ballet director Xin Peng Wang had choreographed. Furthermore the ballet stage play Sarabande by Benjamin Millepied and the costume design for the first co-production of the Young Opera and the Young Theatre Dortmund was successfully developed.
In addition she created costumes for the family musical Alice in Wonderland for an open air theatre in Coesfeld, Germany. On the occasion of Kleist Year 2011 she designed and made a costume and room installation for the double exhibition Kleist: Crisis and Experiment at the Ephraim Palais, Berlin.  Costumes for The White Horse Inn were designed by her for Theatre Luzern and was nominated for Prix Juste-au-Corps 2012. Since the summer of 2012 she has worked as a freelance costume designer based in Mainz and has worked successfully as a production organizer for the big ballet piece Dream of the Red Chamber by Xin Peng Wang.

2006 – 2009

An internship at the Vienna costume studio Art for Art gave her the opportunity to work for the Vienna Opera and to assist in the two big operas Madame Butterfly and Moses and Aron. She went on to receive a scholarship from ASA and went to live and work at Almaty in Kazakhstan. Her task was to organise and teach traditional felt makers how to design and develop felted products. Referring to this local market research, an autumn-winter collection of scarves and cuffs developed together. After her stay in Kazakhstan she moved to London to study her Masters in fashion design and technology at London College of Fashion. She graduated with distinction and won the Unilever Award and the Bavarian state prize for young designers.

Following this she created the first set and costume designs for artist duo Lundahl & Seitl, for the performance My Voice that was presented at BAC-Battersea Arts Centre at London, as well as Symphony of a Missing Room at the National Museum Stockholm, Sweden. As assistant of design and pattern cutting she worked for the London based fashion designer Hussein Chalayan and took part in the Paris Fashion show S/S 2009 and S/W 2009/10. In this way she developed her knowledge in draping and pattern design.

2000 – 2005

In summer 2000 she completed her A-levels at Bad Kreuznach after which she gained her first experience as a trainee in costume-making at Theatre Mainz, with the musical Evita.
To gain more understanding in sewing and pattern cutting she took part in a special course in Ladies Dress Making at the temple Wat Tatong in Bangkok. For a further three months she worked as an intern in an industrial tailoring company at Bad Kreuznach. In 2001 she started her studies in Fashion Design at University of Applied Sciences Pforzheim. During this time she did a seven-month internship in Bangkok, at Studio Léa, a Unesco award-winning organisation, that produces and deals with silk fabric. Jula Reindell was allowed to design a whole collection that was showcased in a fashion show. In 2005 she graduated successfully with a Diploma in Fashion Design and had the great opportunity to present her final collection with four other students in a fashion show at MAK-Austrian Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna. For her presentation she collaborated with dancers from the Tanzquartier and met the dancer Ottilia Gaurean who asked her to create costumes for a dance piece at Tanzquartier, Vienna.
